Bute Island is an easy day trip from Glasgow. The train from Glasgow Central will end at Wemyss Bay from where you can take an hourly Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry to Rothesay port on Bute Island. Rothesay Castle is just across from the ferry terminal and a short bike ride, bus, or car journey south will bring you to Mount Stuart an elaborately built mansion of a wealthy industrialist. Returning to Glasgow on the ferry and train I end with a short cycling tour of Glasgow city centre sights around Merchant City.
